South Cone Agriculture
South Cone Agriculture (SCA) is an Irish company with operations in South America and Africa. Its main line of business is to grow, process and deliver agri-industrial feedstocks for both the chemical and renewable energy industries.
The increasing demand for green chemicals in developed markets has not been followed by professional and large scale supply of agricultural specialties to the emerging bio-chemicals, bio-plastics and other renewable raw materials buyers. Green chemicals companies are estimated to generate US$ 300 billion in sales (2008) and growing at double-digit rates.
As global energy consumption rises - demand shall double until 2050 - and fossil fuel reserves decline, the demand for biofuels tends to grow exponentially. Many corporations have entered the renewable energy industry. However, few companies are dedicated to generating the much needed feedstock to run their plants. The outcome has been competition with foodstuff produce, pressure on commodity prices and unbalanced supply.
Environmental concerns are also driving the shift towards the use of renewables as pollution and the global warming phenomena known as the Greenhouse Effect is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide and other hazardous substance by cars, trucks, chemical manufacturers and power plants using fuels or feedstocks of fossil origin like petroleum, gas and coal.
The renewables industry is established with global players and astonishing growth projected for many years ahead. Just like petroleum exploration companies, South Cone Agriculture is an strategic upstream "green oil" supplier. SCA´s focus is on the production of different vegetable oils, with additional interests in other energy and industrial crops.
We believe that companies relying on fossil raw material will be vulnerable to shortages, increasing prices and political instability of oil producing nations. Thus, the renewables industry calls for the presence of global reaching dedicated feedstock suppliers.
