South Cone Agriculture
South Cone Agriculture (SCA) is an Irish company with operations in South America and Africa.
Its main line of business is to grow, process and deliver renewable energy feedstocks. As global energy consumption rises - demand shall double until 2050 - and fossil fuel reserves decline, the demand for biofuels tends to grow exponentially. Many corporations have entered the renewable energy industry. However, few companies are dedicated to generating the much needed feedstock to run their plants. The outcome has been competition with foodstuff produce, pressure on commodity prices and unbalanced supply.
Environmental concerns are also driving the shift towards the use of renewable energy as the global warming phenomena known as the Greenhouse Effect is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide produced by cars, trucks, industries and power plants burning fossil fuels like gas, diesel and coal.
The biofuels industry is established with global players and astonishing growth projected for many years ahead. Just like petroleum exploration companies, South Cone Agriculture is an strategic upstream "new energy" supplier. SCA´s focus is on the production of jatropha oil, with additional interests in other low cost energy and industrial crops.
We believe that companies relying on fossil fuels will be vulnerable to shortages, increasing prices and political instability of oil producing nations. Thus, the alternative energy sector calls for the presence of global dedicated energy feedstock suppliers.
